Theatre is an extreme art form. The stage is the space behind an open door to the deepest rooms of someone else’s house. Its lights come from impossible windows that welcome the stridency of other suns. The bodies on it are swimming echoes of an unfamiliar voice. And yet, it is in stealing it all away that theatre is: in the wearing of such drapes as made to measure, in the revolt of the spectator as creator.
Of all the layers of creative labour involved in the production of performing art, the ones represented here are limited to the concrete results of the mise-en-scène. New material involving drama literature, preliminary stage designs, make-up sessions, and so on, will be made available soon.
